Schloss Vaux Gruner Veltliner Deutscher Sekt

Who makes it?

Schloss Vaux Gruner Veltliner Sekt is just one reason to seek out this German fizz producer. Schloss Vaux has had a long sparkling history, since the late 1800’s. Today, the producer specialises in exquisite sparkling wines. Not just from Riesling and Pinot Noir but also Pinot Blanc, and then there is this Gru V beauty.

They even now do a version of Sekt from Riesling that ferments in not just Stainless steel tanks but also barrels and amphora.

This Gruner Veltliner Sekt though is not just a fizz for celebration. It is one for any occasion when you might want an intense treat that while it is generous, it displays balance and texture. However, at its heart is always elegance.

How do they make it?

To create this fizz, the team use the traditional methods such as those refined in Champagne. The wine has up to 30 months resting on lees before disgorgement. It is also a zero dosage wine, meaning that the winemaking team relies on ripeness to ensure the wine is balanced and complex. The additional time on lees will also add to the balance of this wine.

What does it taste like?

The Gruner is redolent with stonefruit so ripe that it is like biting into a fresh peach with a Rheingau reality check of crisp apple. There is also some lemon citrus and slatey minerality.  That time on lees adds spiced creamy, biscuit overtones. Particularly on the long and lingering finish. It has not had any additional sugar added after this second ferment and sits at less than 1 g/L of residual sugar. With so much ripe fruit, you do not miss that sugar addition at all.

What to drink it with?

There is more than enough power to this Vaux Gruner Veltliner Sekt to enjoy with meals as well as by itself. Think baked fish, or seafood. Or a lighter style of chicken dish. It will work just as well with a baked vegetable and cheese tart or a slice of Quiche Lorraine.

Cheese

This will be a good match for fresh cheese such as feta, or Chevre, or bloomy cheeses.

Quickie review «An exceptional fizz showcasing Gruner Veltliner and capturing all its luscious stonefruit, apple and zesty citrus  personality and giving it the added details of spicy cream biscuits.»
