Santa Julia Organic Torrontes

Who makes it?

Santa Julia is one of the Zuccardi family’s estates, with Julia Zuccardi at the head. The Torrontes grapes for this wines come from Mendoza vineyards at the foot of the Andes, from 600 metres above sea level. This simply means that the grapes are ripened basking in the abundant sunshine while the cool nights allow the grapes to develop plenty of character. The Santa Julia Maipú vineyards are certified organic and are filled with Malbec, Cabernet, Sauvignon Blanc, as well as this Torrontes.

How do they make it?

The skin contact and native yeast ferment has given this wine a savouriness and adds body as well as favour. The high altitude fruit ensures that the fresh floral nature of the wine also retains the zesty line of acidity.

What does it taste like?

This fuller bodied white wine is fresh, zesty and really good drinking. With just 1.8 g/l of residual sugar, it is a dry wine but has plenty of sweetly ripe nectarine and peach fruit. This fruitiness is further enhanced by some heady floral spice underlined with a line of citrus. The intensity on the palate lingers for a satisfying moment.

What to drink with it?

Enjoy this wine unadorned, and let it speak for itself. It needs no food. However, if you have some fresh seafood, or grilled scallops with chilli you cannot go wrong. So too, if you have some carmelised onion and feta tartlets, or even some chicken salad.

Cheese

Fresh cheeses like chevre and feta and bloomy cheeses such as Camembert or Brie.

Quickie review « This is such a fresh and floral white yet it has a delicious savoury edge, this is a great place to start if you are new to Torrontes. »
