Hunter’s MiruMiru NV Sparkling Rosé

MiruMiru is Moari for ‘bubbles’!

Hunters MiruMiru

Behind this rather unassuming looking label, the MiruMiru is one of New Zealand’s finest sparkling Rosés made by Jane Hunter. The MiruMiru range delivers exactly what it promises on that label.  It literally means ‘bubbles’ in Maori. These grapes come from New Zealand’s Marlborough region. A region known around the world for its Sauvignon Blanc, however of course, the region has much more to offer, including rather elegant Pinot Noir. This is a blend of 55% Pinot Noir, 42% Chardonnay and 3% Pinot Meunier.

It is lovely pale pink in the glass, redolent with lush scents of ripe strawberry, peach over a biscuit base. That biscuit is the result of 3 years on lees and adds a flourish of savoury spice to the finish. This rosé works well as a fresh and crisp aperitif but it is also a foodworthy wine particularly with some hot smoked salmon with chilli mixed through some pasta for dinner.
