Who makes it?
Altos de Torona Albarino is a crisp dry white from Galicia’s iconic Rias Baixas region. The vineyards of Altos de Torona are home to not just the native Albarino, but also Loureira and Godello. They also make two sparkling versions of Albarino, as well as other still Albarino wines.
How do they make it?
The winemaking team uses only stainless steel tanks to keep the fruit front and centre in this wine. The grapes are coming from the granite and sandy soils have given the wine a distinct minerality. After ferment, the wine then spends another six months on lees.
For more information about the impact of lees on wine, please read ‘What are lees?’
What does it taste like?
This is a crisp dry white wine. It is fuller in body with some creaminess coming from that time on lees to add flesh. The fresh peach stonefruit and floral aromas are freshened by a very light herbal note and some nuttiness. The wine finishes with a tanginess and some minerally salinity. As the wine moves throughout the mouth, the wine is kept fresh and vivacious with a sherberty acid lift.
What to drink it with?
The salty finish on this Albarino makes it a good wine match with seafood or a chicken salad with pinenuts and feta.
Cheese
Enjoy Altos de Torona Albarino with white bloomy cheeses such as Brie or with fresh cheeses such as feta and chevre.
